Adventure at the tip of your skis!
An off-piste | freeride session takes place in unsupervised mountain areas around Montgenevre. You will be guided by an experienced pro from the ski school who will accompany you to the most remote corners of Montgenevre.
Off-piste skiing or snowboarding requires a high level of technique and experience. The instructors/guides leading these freeride outings will introduce you to reading your environment to navigate in optimal safety conditions. As the snow conditions change with the weather, each day will bring different challenges. Powder, heavy, crusty, tracked... you'll grasp the techniques for adapting to various conditions.
To start, you'll need to love challenges and have good self-confidence. Regarding your skiing or snowboarding level: If you've had at least 200 falls and now can navigate a black slope in any snow and weather conditions, all with a rather academic style— you're good!
Equipment
You will need:
Adapted skis (all mountain or "fats")
Helmets are required
A back protection shell can also be a good idea...
Skipass
The "classic" 6-day skipass is enough for our freeride course
Please note that the ski school does not provide coverage for students. In case of injury, illness, or the student's absence, classes are non-refundable. We highly recommend obtaining insurance that covers these risks.
Sunscreen
A little snack in your pocket!
And a quick bathroom break before hitting the slopes! ☃️
Montgenevre is renowned for its vast spaces and high-quality slopes. However, Montgenevre actually hides a true treasure for freeride skiing.
Located on the border between France and Italy, Montgenevre is reputed for having one of the best snow coverages. The off-piste experience is magnificent, and it's not uncommon to glide through fields of powder several days after a snowfall.
Whether you're a "first-timer" or an expert, Montgenevre offers a diverse range of slopes to navigate under optimal conditions based on your skill level.
Perfect for warming up, it's an easily accessible off-piste area with few obstacles. In essence, there's plenty of space. Numerous variations are possible.
Short but refined. Beautiful obstacles will punctuate your descent. Trees and small rocks will delight freeriders.
Easy access with an incredible view of the Clarée, Briançon, and Serre Chevalier valleys. As you descend, things get a bit challenging, and your thighs might feel the burn, but it's a very playful off-piste experience.
Another easy start, with traces of Montgenèvre's history (Maginot fortifications). Then, it's the descent through the forest in a magnificent landscape with distinct mountainous relief.
Now, we're talking about a ski-on-shoulder start. There's a short approach walk (15 to 20 minutes). And then, you're there... the vastness, snowfields as far as the eye can see, Italy, the aroma of pasta, the Colosseum, Venice... Okay, maybe I'm getting a bit carried away there, right? The Grand Charvia remains one of my personal favorites.
Many other off-piste routes adorn the mountain around Montgenèvre, and we’re more than happy to keep a few surprises 🎁 for you.
